Job Purpose

This role will support the daily operation of the diagnostic laboratory covering a range of disciplines including histology and microbiology. The main activity of the post is to assist in the production of high quality slides for diagnosis, this will include but is not limited to: sample registration, dissection and trimming, embedding, sectioning, manual staining, manual coverslipping and digitisation of stained slides. Other tasks will include: assisting in microbiology diagnostics & maintaining media stocks, haematology, LIMS upkeep, fulfilling client orders & requests and assisting clinical team with other diagnostic processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior histologist with daily histology processing
  • Assist with microbiology diagnostics and maintaining media stocks
  • Assist lab managers in other diagnostic tasks & requests
  • Report technical and stocking issues to senior histologist or lab manager
  • Check LIMS processes are up to date and report any issues to lab manager
  • Work cohesively with all members of the group ensuring that the very best services are provided
  • Carry out other duties which may be requested by a member of the clinical team
  • Promote a positive image of Fish Vet Group Ltd as a part of Benchmark

    Qualifications and experience

  • Minimum of 1 year histology training
  • Good level of general diagnostic and laboratory practices
  •  Competent computer user and familiar with a variety of software including Microsoft office
  • Good written and verbal communication in English

  • Ability to follow instructions and adhere to lab SOPs
