Benchmark Genetics Technical Director, Alan Tinch, joins SAIC Board
The Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre have today appointed three new members to their Board, including Alan Tinch, Benchmark Genetics Technical Director. Alan is joined by Alan Sutherland, marine director at the Scottish Salmon Company and Pieter van West, director of the International Centre for Aquaculture Research and Development at the University of Aberdeen.
Alan Tinch is a specialist in advanced breeding and genetics and has over thirty years’ experience managing commercial research and development projects across aquatic and terrestrial species – currently working on Atlantic salmon, shrimp and tilapia – with a strong focus on innovation and development in Scottish aquaculture.
SAIC is one of seven innovation centres introduced by the Scottish Government to drive growth in areas of key economic growth and social importance. The group’s aim is to connect industry with academia to encourage collaboration on priority issues, share insights and knowledge, attract funding into Scottish aquaculture and encourage new generations into the sector.
Commenting on the appointment, Alan said:
