SalmoBreed AS and Akvaforsk Genetics Center AS merge to become Benchmark Genetics Norway AS
Benchmark owned Akvaforsk Genetics Centre AS, and SalmoBreed AS have merged to establish Benchmark Genetics Norway AS. The combined organisation will further strengthen the Benchmark’s offering to deliver continuous genetic improvements and support aquaculture producers to increase quality, yield, health and welfare.
CEO in Benchmark Genetics, Jan-Emil Johannessen says:
“To create an even more powerful organization, we have merged the group’s two Norwegian genetics companies.” He further says: “We believe this strategic move will also strengthen our position in the Norwegian and international markets.”
The merged company has 36 employees, of which a total number of 22 either holds a PhD or Masters degrees. All the employees concerned will remain in their positions in the merged entity.
“Our objective is to be at the forefront of R&D in genetics for the aquaculture industry. That is why it is important to create a cross-functional and international knowledge centre to support our strategy of delivering continuous genetic improvement”, says Johannessen.
The headquarters of Benchmark Genetics Norway AS is in Bergen, and the enterprise number of SalmoBreed AS (983 506 925) has been transferred to the new entity. Going forward, the company will continue to provide Atlantic salmon ova and genetics improvement services and build upon the combined knowledge of the teams of experts in internal and external R&D projects. Benchmark Genetics Norway AS will maintain the brand names SalmoBreed and Akvaforsk Genetics for marketing purposes.
